Women and their cars: the difference between 20 and 30

As a woman, I can truthfully say, women are always changing their minds. The car a woman was pining for when she was 22 and just graduated from college, will without a doubt not be the car she wants as a 33-year-old, possibly with one or two little ones in the backseat to think about.  Auto-space.com sells cars for every type of consumer. On a blog written by a woman who calls herself Autowoman, the woman blogs about what women want in a car, and what they look for every time they go to buy a car. I agree with a lot of what she says, except for the bit about how men are so much more interested in the image the car they buy portrays than women. I believe this is more of a stereotype than a truth. Yes, for men, image is the overall most important thing when it comes to their car. Men want their car to give off the image of power, wealth, and envy. They want to make heads turn when they drive by. But to say that women do not want this as well is a stretch. It is true, like experts say, that comfort, safety, practicality and value of a car are top priorities for women. How many cupholders a car has may be more important to a woman than what’s under the hood or the horsepower. However, image for many women is a high priority as well. As a 20-year-old, the car I drive says a lot about me, and the image it gives off about me is important to me. Granted this may just be a materialistic viewpoint because I live in an affluent city where image is everything, but I believe that for women my age, the look of the car is more important than the practicality. When women get older though, like Autowoman’s blog discusses, women have a different set of priorities, especially if when buying a car, they have others to think about, such as children. She lists the top 10 vehicles for women and then some, (age demographic around 30-years-old and above), and has the overall best vehicle for those women being the Honda Fit.
